Register NOW—September AMA-Richmond
Luncheon
Save Money. Live Better. Sound
Familiar?
Of course! You
know that tagline. Yes, you’ve seen their hip new ads.
And, c’mon, admit it, you affectionately call them
“Wally World”. Now, you can hear from someone who knows
them from the inside.
Don’t miss our next AMA
luncheon on September 10th at the
University of Richmond’s Jepson Alumni Center and hear Bruce
Fougere,
a Creative
Director at The Martin
Agency, who will be
sharing his experience on the Wal-Mart
in-store network. His fascinating story gives
perspective on customer behavior and how
demographics are pinpointed by timely ads broadcast in
the stores according to who is shopping at the time.
Bruce will also reveal more on the philosophy, research,
and strategy behind this highly successful in-store
networking initiative.
Registration is from
11:30 -
11:55. The program begins at
noon.

“Agency reveals
all”—a book review by Doug
Burford
After 40 plus
years in the advertising business, what would YOU do?
Well, if you’re Doug Burford, you would share your
passion for advertising by writing a book!
“I thought I
should write a book, a book that will never be a
bestseller, but may help a few people discover that
advertising is one of the few professions where you can
not only sell things, but you can do things that save
the planet and people on it.”
Right
On.
The book can be
purchased ahead of time at the VCU Barnes and Noble. All
proceeds go to the VCU Mass Communications Scholarship
Fund.

Membership Scholarships Still
Available
During these
difficult times, many of our fellow marketers are
continuing to experience job loss. So while the benefits
of AMA-Richmond membership are more important than ever,
we recognize the cost of membership may be a barrier for
those who find themselves joining the ranks of the
unemployed.
To help address
this situation, we’re pleased to announce that Elevation is continuing to offer a
short-term sponsorship to new and current Richmond
Chapter AMA members. Elevation will pay $100 toward the
membership fee for any new or renewing member who has
lost their job during the last 6 months
(1/1/09-9/1/09).
Other provisions
of the membership scholarship include:
- The offer applies
to the first 20 renewing and/or new members to take
advantage of
the opportunity.
- Limited to
renewals/new memberships that take
place during the Fall
Membership
Drive (Sept
8-Nov.8).
- The offer applies
only to those who have lost a full-time job through a
layoff situation, (i.e., does not
apply to freelancers, small business owners and/or
students).
Many thanks to Elevation for continuing to provide
this most generous offer to support AMA membership
during these challenging economic times. We encourage
members and prospective members to explore this
opportunity further by going to the website at http://www.amarichmond.org/ and completing
the applicable registration form.
