Introducing Our New Chapter President, Connie Dye

Connie is the Marketing and Recruitment Manager for UMFS where she makes a difference in the lives of youth, teens and families in the Commonwealth by assisting five regional centers with recruitment and retention of approved foster families. Connie spent 15 years as a creative recruiter and staffing manager in Dallas and Richmond. She started her career in Dallas as a marketing communications manager for professional associations, corporations, and municipalities. A graduate of the University of North Texas, Connie earned her BA in Journalism and Public Relations with minors in Marketing and Management.

Connie has been a member of AMA since 2004 and has served on the Richmond-AMA Board as a Director, Co-VP of Technology, Logistics Coordinator and President-Elect. Her advice to members is to “volunteer, volunteer, volunteer” as the best way to build personal and professional relationships within AMA, and states that even “a small amount of time investment in the chapter will reap big rewards.”  As President, she plans to build on the momentum started by Amy Favreau, who is a leadership role model for Connie. During the next year,  Connie and the board plan to start a Special Interest Group (SIG). These small groups are an in-depth way for attendees to investigate current topics in marketing and share best practices. Also on deck is a comprehensive web strategy. The chapter will have a completely redesigned web site that should launch in early 2010.

In addition to her work on behalf of AMA, she actively volunteers for her childrens’ school and sports teams and is an advocate for community and commercial recycling programs. Connie likes Richmond for its history and enjoys the Fan, Maymont, and Carytown. She is in search of a good Tex-Mex spot in town, so next time you see her, congratulate her on her new role and give her a dining suggestion.

Save The Date: September AMA-Richmond Luncheon

Would you like to work in advertising and learn how keep your hair, get home earlier and occasionally even make it to an after work date without having to reschedule?

Then don’t miss Bruce Fougere, speaking on “How to be Lazy, and Still Get What You Want” at the next AMA luncheon on September 10th at the University of Richmond, Jepson Alumni Center with registration from 11:30 - 11:55. The program begins at noon. An invitation will be sent to you soon.

Bruce shares his 15 years experience in developing an approach to his work that is effective, repeatable and helpful to most people. And thankfully, it takes a lot less effort than the old way. Bruce has worked on some fairly decent sized brands (Sony, Audi, Travelocity, Verizon, and most recently Wal-Mart). He took the standard path to becoming a writer -- held just about every other kind of job there is until he stumbled upon his career by accident. Once he got on the right track, he got the chance to work at some great shops (and some horrible ones) and they all taught him important lessons but one stands out. Come hear for yourself.
