Benefits of Being A Member
When you join the national organization you also become a member of
the local chapter. The Richmond, Virginia chapter has been
recognized nationally as one of the outstanding chapters in the
entire country. For over 46 years, we have offered monthly
luncheons, seminars and special events that have helped members get
plugged into the marketing community of greater Virginia. We also
offer you opportunities to volunteer which allows you to take your
membership to a higher level. By volunteering for the chapter you
get to work closely with a small group of members giving you the
chance to forge new friendships and hone new skills while giving
back to the professional community.
What Our Members
and Marketers Say About
AMA-Richmond
I just completed this survey...but
wanted to drop you a note with a big "WOO-HOO" about the
AMA-Richmond Luncheon today!
I was an AMA-Richmond member years ago as a credit union
marketer...but when I went out on my own (I'm a marketing consultant
now), I let my membership expire. Being a one-woman shop with a
limited budget, I need to choose my "associations" carefully. So, I
returned to AMA-Richmond today to check it out and I'm very glad I
did!
Things have changed...and I mean that in a good way. I wondered if a
small business owner would have a "place at the table". I did. I
felt welcomed from the minute I approached the venue until the
minute I got into my car to leave! (Years ago, I did NOT experience
that with AMA-Richmond.) And the best part...I felt just as
important...just as appreciated for attending...just a "big"...as
all the other companies represented today. Wow.
When I was in the credit union world, I was one of the founders of
the "Credit Union Marketing Council of Virginia". We held workshops
at different locations around the state for credit union
marketers...from the tiny to the tallest...and I wondered if I'd
ever find that marketing comradery again. I did...today.
So, thanks AMA-Richmond for the "group hug"! I'll be back again and
who knows...I just may reactivate my membership, get involved and
become part of the welcoming committee for other marketers who are
looking for a place to "join. connect. grow".
Tina Gibson, President, So Savant
I joined AMA because I had just relocated to Richmond and didn't
know anyone in my field. I came looking for networking
opportunities. I knew from experience that what you get from a
membership is directly related to what you put in, so I volunteered
to help on a committee. The next thing I knew I was serving on the
Board. I have made invaluable contacts, both personally and
professionally, that I can directly attribute to AMA-Richmond. Connie
Dye, Member Since
2005
The AMA allows its members to gain
a lot of personal development as well as meet other peers in an
invigorating environment.
Just go ahead and get involved! Evan Silverstein, Publisher,
Housetrends Magazine, Member Since 2003
So, you’re thinking about joining
the American Marketing Association. Smart move. It’s pretty safe to
say that networking is probably one of the main reasons why you're
considering membership. It was for me too.
But joining is just the beginning. How will you maximize your
membership and meet as many people as possible? I encourage you to
do what I did – get involved.
When you take an active role in the Chapter you meet more people.
It’s that simple.
Years ago, I volunteered to serve as the Chapter’s Vice President of
Communications and it was the smartest thing I ever did. I met
dozens of other members while working on newsletters, the website
and public relations. Those members introduced me to other members.
Pretty soon my network was large and growing larger.
There are literally dozens of ways to plug in to the Chapter. Start
small or jump in feet first. Either way you will quickly learn what
i've learned - AMA-Richmond should be an important part of your
career development plan. Mark Cipolletti, Vice President of
Marketing Communications, World Access
I joined the AMA to network with
other marketing pros and to improve my knowledge of marketing. Both
have been achieved beyond my expectations. The quality of the
speakers and programs put on by the AMA, and the opportunities to
interact with my peers has increased my knowledge and helped my
business succeed. Neal Lappe, President, WSI-WebStrategies,
Member Since 2006
I’m a member because the
AMA-Richmond brings together great people from all aspects of marketing
so you get different perspectives and build new relationships.
Terry Fink, President, Planet Central, Member Since 1998
I am a member of AMA-Richmond
because I wanted to tap into the local marketing community on a
deeper level. Not only is it a great outlet to network, but it is
also extremely educational. Between the dynamic luncheon speakers
with topical content and interactive Market Dialogue events, my
membership is well worth the investment! Mary Beth Thomsen,
Marketing Communications Manager, PowerPact, Member Since 2005
Being a member of AMA-Richmond
provides the best opportunity to stay connected with other
professionals in the Marketing and Advertising community. By
maintaining an active involvement with the organization, it allows
me to broaden my professional and personal horizons. Ron
Fink, Managing Partner, Strategic Marketing Solutions, Member Since
2004
Being a member of AMA-Richmond
gives me the opportunity to broaden my professional knowledge
through networking and by being exposed to a variety of ideas and
marketers from across the country. The best way you can maximize
your membership is to join a committee and volunteer. Cliff
Sleeman, President, Communication Strategies, Inc., Member Since
1998
We also like to have fun and create
several opportunities during the year to get marketers together.
Some of the events include the new member socials, our annual
holiday party in December and our now famous "Advertising Bowl" that
has become an annual sell-out event. We provide professionals
numerous opportunities to meet and get to know other marketers from
a diverse group of business backgrounds. We can even help you find a
new employee or a new job through our national job bank called
JobLink.
Join us for an upcoming luncheon
and talk to the people that you will meet and ask them why they
joined the AMA-Richmond chapter. You will be convinced that this is
the premier professional group for marketers in central Virginia for
you to join.
