College students on the path to a career in marketing can get a head start on their professional futures by taking advantage of opportunities offered by AMA-Richmond, including:
Annual Scholarship Awards
Each year, AMA-Richmond awards scholarships to three exceptional undergraduate college students in marketing or a marketing-related degree program. To learn more about the Robert R. Barber Endowment Fund for Scholarship and Training Awards, click here.
Real-World Marketing Q&A
Every fall, AMA-Richmond marketing professionals participate in educational panel discussions with the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University AMA chapters. These panels allow student members to ask questions about the marketing profession, including what to expect in the real world, how to prepare for their career, and how to differentiate themselves in the job market. Our real answers are based on years of experience and industry insight.
In 2009, we kicked off the first-ever career fair at Virginia Commonwealth University. This members-only event gave student-members the opportunity to have their résumés critiqued by real-world marketing recruiters and participate in mock-interviews with marketing professionals. A similar event is in the works for Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond in 2015.
We regularly supply local collegiate—and sometimes high school—classrooms with some of the best and brightest minds in the marketing profession: our members! All you have to do is ask.
Learning & Networking Opportunities
Each month, AMA-Richmond reaches out to students and professors alike to invite them to join us for world-class speakers at our signature luncheon events. These programs are great opportunities to learn about a variety of marketing topics as well as meet and greet AMA-Richmond chapter members—who could be future employers! In addition to our luncheons, student-members are invited to attend all AMA-Richmond member events, including Market Dialogue, Special Interest Groups and socials.
Our professional members are available for mentorship and can provide a real-world perspective on the fields of marketing, advertising, public relations, communications and more.
The best way to make the most of membership—whether you’re a professional or a student—is to get involved.
Check out AMA-Richmond’s Volunteer page to learn more about where you can deepen your engagement with the professional chapter through volunteerism.
Collegiate Chapters are also always on the lookout for students to take on active volunteer and leadership roles. AMA involvement is a fantastic résumé builder. If you’re interested, let your Faculty Advisor know when you join.
The benefits of volunteerism are more than worth the investment of your time!
